Breaking: Google Opens Gemini 4 Argon to Developers and Subscribers Worldwide
Google made Gemini 4 Argon globally available on Oct 13 — paid API, Gemini for business, and Pro/Ultra subscribers. Intro pricing runs to Nov 30.

Two weeks after unveiling Gemini 4 Argon behind closed doors, Google opened its newest flagship AI model to the world. On October 13, 2026, Google DeepMind SVP and Chief AI Architect Koray Kavukcuoglu announced that Argon is now globally available — ending the limited rollout to cybersecurity partners that began September 30 (official blog). This answers the biggest open question from our October 1 report: Argon is no longer locked away.
What we know
- Who gets it: developers via the paid Gemini API in AI Studio and Android Studio; business customers through Gemini for business; and Google AI Pro ($20/month) and Ultra ($99/month) subscribers in the Gemini app and AI Mode in Search. Ultra subscribers also get it in Antigravity, Google's coding-agent tool. Free users stay on Flash-class models.
- The price: an introductory rate of $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens, with cached input at 95% off ($0.10 per million). That promo ends November 30, 2026 — on December 1 the standard price doubles to $4 and $20. At the intro rate it undercuts OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra ($10/$50) and Anthropic's Claude Opus 5.5 ($4/$20) on list price, per Okay News.
- The specs: a unified 1-million-token context window (shared across input, thinking, and output), support for up to 1 million output tokens, and tunable thinking levels.
- Google's claims: Google says Argon ranks #1 on the Vals Index, a benchmark measuring model performance across finance, coding, legal, and tax work — and that its own teams used it to refactor millions of lines of Chrome code.
- The rollout sequence: announced September 30 to a small set of trusted cyber defenders; Ultra subscribers and paid API customers came next as planned, with Pro subscribers arriving at the same time. Per Google, this is only the first model of the Gemini 4 generation.
What's unconfirmed
- The performance claims. The #1-on-Vals-Index result and Google's benchmark claims are vendor-reported — no independent evaluation has been published yet. Judge it on real-world tests, not launch-day charts.
- When free users get access. Google has said nothing about Argon on lower Antigravity tiers or the free tier, so the base Gemini app experience is unchanged for most people.
- Whether the intro price sticks for anyone after November 30. The December 1 doubling to $4/$20 is the stated plan; promotional pricing could still shift.
Why it matters
Google is the company most Americans actually meet AI through — Search, Android, Workspace — so a new flagship model matters the moment it leaves the lab. Today's rollout does two things at once: it puts real competitive pressure on OpenAI and Anthropic (note the pricing gap), and it moves the frontier-model race from "who has the best lab demo" to "who has the best model you can actually buy." For developers and businesses, the intro price is the story: $2/$10 per million tokens makes long, multi-step agentic work dramatically cheaper to run through November — then it doubles. If you're planning an Argon-based project, test it before the promo expires and budget for the December rates.
