Tencent launched Hy4 on Tuesday, November 4, 2026 — the flagship of its Hunyuan model line and the first in the series that can both see and operate a computer. The 770-billion-parameter model adds native image understanding and computer-use capabilities through command-line and graphical interfaces, and Tencent says it ranks among the world's most capable open-weight models. It's already available through Tencent's products and third-party APIs — though the promised downloadable weights have not been released yet.

What we know

  • The scale. Hy4 totals 770 billion parameters — 49 billion active per query — and handles up to 1 million tokens of context.
  • Vision and computer use are new. For the first time in the Hunyuan series, the model understands images and can act on them — reading charts, parsing documents, and driving software through graphical interfaces and the command line. Tencent says it trained the model on specialized software including Blender and CAD tools.
  • It's live, but the weights aren't out yet. Hy4 is available now in Tencent's Yuanbao, WorkBuddy, CodeBuddy and other products, plus via API through Tencent Cloud TokenHub and OpenRouter (as tencent/hy4). Tencent says the model weights and system card will follow in the coming days, under an Apache 2.0 license.
  • Pricing held steady. Tencent kept Hy4 Preview's API rates: $0.834 per million input tokens and $2.501 per million output tokens. WorkBuddy and CodeBuddy offer a limited free quota through November 15, TokenHub bills Hy4 at 50% through December 31, and a cheaper Hy4 Flash is coming shortly.
  • Tencent's own performance claims. In Tencent's own finance-focused blind evaluation of 579 real-world tasks, Hy4 ranked first among the open-weight models tested — Tencent's numbers, not an independent lab's.
  • Same-day open-weights news. Moonshot AI also released the open weights for Kimi K3.1 Pro on November 4, published on Hugging Face alongside a faster hosted tier.

What's unconfirmed

  • The weights. Until they are actually published, "open-weight" is a promise, not a fact. Calling Hy4 fully downloadable today would be misleading.
  • Independent benchmarks. No major independent index has scored Hy4 yet. Treat the "most capable" framing as Tencent's claim until third-party tests land.
  • How good the computer use really is. Real-world reliability will only show up in developer testing over the coming weeks.

Why it matters

Hy4 is the second major open-weight flagship in a month, after Meta's Muse Spark Open on October 15, and it pushes the race toward agents that can see a screen and operate software, not just answer questions. For developers, a downloadable 770B model with a million-token window and computer use is a serious option once the weights arrive. For everyone else, the near-term effect is narrow: Hy4 mostly reaches users through Tencent's China-focused products, though OpenRouter puts its API a click away for developers worldwide. The honest version: the launch is real and the model is usable today, but the open-weights payoff is still pending.
